San Marino’s football federation, the FSGC, became a member of UEFA in 1988 and joined FIFA later that year. The senior national team made its official international debut on 14 November 1990, losing 4-0 to Switzerland in Serravalle.
The early years and first victory
Early years were extremely difficult. San Marino suffered many heavy defeats, but the team recorded its first significant result in 1993, when it held Turkey to a 0-0 draw in a World Cup qualifier. Another memorable draw came in 2001, when San Marino drew 1-1 away to Latvia. Make sure to also try online betting football on 1xbet.sl/en/line/football on other matches featuring San Marino too.
The country finally celebrated its first victory in 2004. On 28 April, Andy Selva scored the only goal in a 1-0 friendly victory over Liechtenstein. This remained San Marino’s only senior international win for 2 decades. If you think San Marino will win a match, you can make online football betting on that occurrence at the 1xBet platform.
Another important moment arrived in 2014, when San Marino ended a 61-match losing streak by drawing 0-0 with Estonia. The result also gave them their first point in European Championship qualifying.
